Any good advice for shopping in Madrid -- my 18 year old daughter wants bargains on 'good' stuff. She likes unique as well as designer clothes and accessories. I'm more into handbags but she is spending her money so I'm hoping to help her find some 'bargains' so her money goes further. Any advice is most appreciated.
El Rastro is a great flea market. Thousands of stalls. The best local department store is El Corte. Most other shops are between Gran Via and Puerta del Sol . Also ask at your hotel for ideas.
The Gran Via area and the few blocks just off at Calle Funercaral are filled with interesting shops. Look for the Telpehone Building (one of the taller ones) and you will be there, near the Gran Via Metro Station as well. Also an interesting shop for handbags, etc., made locally is http://bahban.com Check out its website to get an idea of the products. El Cortes Ingles and Zara are both excellent large department stores for fashion. And there are many smaller shops in the city as well.
Definitely interesting shops on Calle Fuencarral and Calle Hortaleza as mentioned and around the Chueca district.
Calle de Serrano in Salamanca district for international designer labels, especially if it's sale time.
