LUMINISCENCE at Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi (Barcelona)

This might be impossible to pull off, but I am sort of interested in attending the LUMINISCENCE: Immerse Yourself in the Secrets of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi experience.

Has anyone been to this?

Here is the other catch. We arrive in Barcelona @740. We would need to drop our bags off at our hotel/check in - the hotel is near Sagrada Familia. Would we have enough time to arrive, check in to the hotel and then get to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi by 9pm, which is in the Ramblas area.... Are we crazy to attempt this? Looking to go March 19.

We just returned from a trip to Netherlands and Seville, Spain. We stayed in Delft, Netherlands for our final 3 nights and LUMINISCENCE took over the Old Kerk in Delft. We loved it! For the show in Delft, it was specific to Delft, the church, and Netherlands. It only lasted about 50 minutes but it was money well spent. The choir was great. We went with the higher priced platinum option vs. gold. Platinum seats are in the rear to middle, which are better in this case vs front row seats, to give you a larger viewing angle. It came with narration, strictly in Dutch, but not understanding the language didn’t take anything away from the experience. They also offer some shows with choir and orchestra, so I wonder if that is an option for you.

Yuk!… definitely not in my mind.

First, let’s assume the miracle happens and you actually land at 7:40. When flying, there are so many variables that “scheduled arrival time” is more of a suggestion than a promise, so that’s my first hmm… maybe.

Then there’s passport control if you’re coming from outside the EU. Right now, we’ve got the shiny new EES system in Europe -kiosks taking pictures and other biometrics-, which, let’s say politely, is still learning how to behave. After that, you still have to collect your luggage, and you’re arriving at one of the busier moments of the day.

Next step: taxi to the hotel, just in time to flirt with the tail end of rush hour, even at no-traffic moments it'd take around 35' to get to your hotel. Check in, drop the bags, quick breath… and then another taxi to downtown.

I truly hope I’m wrong, but my gut says 9 pm at the concert is, errr.... veeery optimistic… and even 10 pm might be a heroic achievement. 😅

... these days, that might not be a blessing either :(

With a heavy heart, I am preparing a post advising to postpone train journeys in Catalonia -or at least to be flexible and be ready for important delays. It is not given that all train journeys need to face delays or cancellations, but it's happening alarmingly often, and it will continue to be so for some time.

In your case, since you're already committed, let's cross fingers hoping it indeed arrives at 7:40... may be so, may be not. Let's say it does, the only thing that changes my previous assessment is that you won't face security controls nor delays for picking up your luggage -which is already a considerable save- but you still need to cross Barcelona at the end of rush hour... twice: one to go from Estació de Sants to Sagrada Família, the other to go the opposite way to Barri Gòtic.

IMHO, you may make it... but it's not given.
