Luggage Storage at Atocha near AVA departures?

We are hoping to check out of our hotel early and visit the Thyssen museum on a Tuesday before our 4:30 AVA departure to Barcelona. Is there a baggage storage at Atocha near the AVA departures where we could store our bags for several hours?

If there is a storage area, we are wondering if there is a convenient passenger drop off for taxis which would be closer to the storage area as we are an older couple with minor mobility issues. Thank you in advance for your advice.

I don't have a total answer for you, but perhaps this will help: http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/info/ZonaEmbarqueAtocha.html

It's a diagram of Atocha Station. If you look down near the bottom right corner, you'll see an icon that seems to indicate luggage storage. It's a suitcase with a key above it. It's near the tropical garden--a major landmark inside the station that anyone can point you to (jardin, "har DEEN" in Spanish).

Beyond the other end of the garden are escalators. I think you need to go upstairs for the Barcelona departures.

Between the left-luggage area and the escalators there's an entrance with a taxi symbol outside, so it appears you can enter that way, from Calle Mendez Alvaro.

Sara,

The luggage lockers are on the ground floor of the original train station that was converted into a tropical garden.
The taxi should be able to drop you off at the front of the station.

The luggage lockers (“Consignas”) are located at the far right corner, past the tropical garden (make sure you check out the cute turtles!), near Burger King.

See #5 in green on this diagram of Puerta de Atocha Station

I wrote detailed instructions about using the lockers at Atocha Station on this post

The locker area is open from 5:30am - 10:20pm
Prices: Small locker €3.10, Medium €3.60, and Large €5.20.

Enjoy your time in beautiful Spain!
