Luggage Handling advice

Planning a trip at the tail end of my son's Barcelona semester. We would fly there, spend time and then the three of us would travel around Spain. The challenge is that he will have way more luggage than we want to carry with us as we travel around Spain. So, if we were doing open jaws and flying out of Madrid..

  • Ship the luggage to our last hotel
  • Ship the luggage to the company that handles Baggage handling at Madrid Terminal 4 (our outbound terminal)
  • Use some other luggage handling service I don't know about.
  • We are flying Barcelona to Granada via Madrid, but the layover is just too short for us to claim the bag, check the bag into Baggage Handling, and clear security in time for the second leg of the flight.

NOTE: shipping luggage home from Spain seems ridiculously expensive. If you have a cheaper solution, please feel free to weigh in.

TIA

Put the baggage in storage in Barcelona.
Don't fly open jaw just go back to Barcelona on the train and pick up your luggage from storage when it is time to go.
Why are you taking a connecting flight to Granada when there is a direct one?

Can you arrange your travels to end back in Barcelona? That would be my first choice.

Ship the luggage to our last hotel

What is the shipping cost and will the hotel let it sit there for 'x' days?

What is the cost difference between just shipping it home, vs 'local' shipping and storage costs plus the excess baggage fees you quite likely will have to pay if it flies home with you?

Would leaving some stuff behind be a cost effective option?

Yeah, food for thought. The original reason for the Madrid stopover was flight schedule + cost, but I think there might be more to consider. I'm gonna go back to the planning drawing board. Thanks
