Looking for an itinerary for Gran Canaria in March, 2026

My husband and I (healthy, active seniors) are looking for travel itinerary suggestions for a 2 1/2 - 3 week vacation in Gran Canaria. I understand vehicle rentals are advisable so we'll do that. Love to hike, tour older and historical sections of a community and are not huge beach fans. We always incorporate a walking tour during our travels. All advice gratefully considered. Thanks!

Hi gillian! Here is my experience and I hope that helps you out a bit :) Last winter we spent about two weeks in Gran Canaria and really enjoyed it (we also rented a car).. We started in Las Palmas and stayed near Vegueta and Triana, spending our days walking the old streets, visiting the cathedral and doing museums (here is the official site of Spanish cities info, we usually use its recommendations for our Spain trips https://www.spain.info/en/route/las-palmas-gran-canaria/ ). From there we did a couple of easy day trips, including Bandama Caldera. After that we moved inland to the Tejeda area. We hiked around Roque Nublo and Pico de las Nieves (I am leaving you the links of the sites we used info from in case you want to check them out) and visited Artenara to see the cave houses.
We also took time to go to Tenerife, and we’re very glad we did. Seeing Teide National Park was really worth it, and we definitely don’t regret adding it to the trip. We used ferry hopper's blog to prepare for this trip https://www.ferryhopper.com/en/destinations/spain/gran-canaria .
For us, beaches were big part of our trip, so if eventually you want suggestions I’m happy to share.

That's a huge help, thank you. And, just in case we should feel the need of a swim, which beaches would you recommend?
