Looking for a Homebase in Andalucia for 2 weeks

Hello,
We are planning to send our 2 young adults (ages 13, 15) to a Spanish language residential camp in Malaga for 2 weeks in early July next year. We are renting a car and my wife and I want to stay somewhere in Andalucía driving distance from Malaga (we would drop the boys off and pick them up 2 weeks later)... Generally speaking, when we travel to Europe, we don’t stay more than 3 days in the same town. We enjoy small quaint historic towns, with good restaurants, tapas, outdoor activities (rivers, beaches, caves, hiking) cultural activities, nearby places to explore, etc. Two weeks in the same area seems like a lot of time in our view, though. Is there one or two specific places in the Andalucía region that would offer such unlimited possibilities as a home base?

Just so you know, we will be exploring Andalucia for a 9 days in Spring Break (roughly a couple of months before our kids's camp), we will be visiting the big 3, Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla... We will have a better idea when we travel then, but it'll probably be too late to rent a place (or places) at a reasonable rate for 2 weeks...Now may be the best time to book!

Thank you in advance for your feedback…
Alex

I remember that someone made a positive comment not too long ago about the historic cities of Ubeda and Baeza, and the Google map shows a couple of nearby natural parks with "Sierra" in their names. I deduce that there are mountains and cooler air there, plus hiking possibilities.

But two weeks is a long time. I'd be tempted by the 3-hour AVE trip to Madrid with all its wonderful side-trip possibilities. (No car, of course.)

Or maybe half the time in Ubeda or Baeza and half somewhere else? Extremadura is not Andalucía, but I found it very interesting and under-touristed. Merida, Caceres, Trujillo and (much farther north) Ciudad Rodrigo are all worthy destinations. But certainly hot in July.

Thanks acraven!
I checked some images of Ubeda in google maps and it's really beautiful! It looks medieval and the hill views remind me of Tuscany... Interesting!

Carmona is next up on my "hope-to-visit" places in that part of the world.
