Lodging Recommendations for our Spain trip

Hello everyone,

This forum is such a wealth of information! My family is planning a trip to Spain for 2023. We haven't traveled abroad since before Covid, so we're looking forward to getting back to Europe. Since we are a family of 5 (2 adults with a 16 year old, 13 year old, and 11 year old at the time of travel) European hotels typically are not large enough and we prefer to rent apartments or houses. We like having laundry facilities and the ability to make our own breakfasts at home and at other times as needed. I studied abroad in Spain in college many years ago and loved it, but living with a Spanish family, I didn't have to worry about where to stay. :) This will be my husband's and children's first trip to Spain!

We of course have used AirBnB and VRBO, along with booking.com, but we are wondering if anyone has additional recommendations of sites to check out for lodging in Spain that I might not be aware of, and perhaps some are more local to the area. I see in Rick Steves' guidebook that he mentions FlipKey and HomeAway.

As we're just in the initial planning stages, here are locations that we're interested in visiting (but we may not make it to all of these places). If anyone has stayed in an amazing apartment or home or neighborhood in these places, I would love to know that as well!

Barcelona
Madrid
Toledo
Granada
Sevilla
Cordoba
one of the white hill towns (not sure yet which one)

Thank you in advance!
Courtney

We use TripAdvisor for initial research, mostly to check prices and view photos. Take any reviews with a grain of salt. In Madrid we’ve stayed at Hotel Europa a few times. It’s right at the Puerta Del Sol. In Toledo we stay at Hotel María Cristina. It’s about a mile from Puerta Bisagra and the escalator to the historic center. If driving, it has its own parking garage. On our last trip to Sevilla we stayed at Hotel Amadeus. It’s a few minutes walk from the cathedral and Alcázar. We’ve stayed at a few hotels in Granada. Most recently it was the no frills Hotel América right at the Alhambra complex.

There are so many hotels with different styles, price ranges and in different parts of each city that you really need to do some initial research rather than depend on others’ recommendations. That will give you a better idea of what’s out there. After conducting some research you could comeback with a not so generic question.

We are visiting all 6 cities listed this October. We booked:
Barcelona - Exe Laietana Palace (Eurostar group)
Madrid - Plaza Mayor (Eurostar)
Granada - Anacapri
Sevilla - H10 Corregidor Boutique Hotel
Cordoba - Patios de Cordoba (Eurostar)
Toledo - La Pasada de Manolo
Eurostar is a spanish chain and we stayed at their hotel in Sicily, it was great.
The other 3 hotels are from Rick’s guide
If you want, I can give you reviews after our return on October 23. Just send me a PM on the 25 or so.
