Locales with San Miguel Patronal fair or Fiesta in September

We are in Madrid the last week of September and - excluding Torremolinos - would like to attend a local San Miguel Fiesta or Fair - San Miguel day is September 29 and it looks like more than a few Spanish communities celebrate

Best would be a quaint town or village where we could spend a few days in local festivities

If you do go to Ágreda stop by the Monasterio de la Inmaculada Concepción (monjas Concepcionistas) to see María Jesús de Ágreda’s (the Blue Nun) casket. She was said to be able to bi-locate. The monastery was free to enter and we were there for maybe 10-15 minutes.

There are plenty of small villages in that area worth visiting, but you’d need a rental car.

Hi Miguel,

the story of the Blue Nun is very interesting. In Agreda I was surprised by Palacio de los Castejones, an Italian Renaissance palace with gardens.

As Jaime said, there are many beautiful little pueblos in the area, and in late September the landscape should be gorgeous. Agredas is in the Tierra del Moncayo district, the Tierra Altas is also very nice. Here is the tourism page for the district.

Not too far away is the Fundacion Vicent Marin, which is quite an interesting place. You can also stay in the village.

Paradors is a government run hotel chain and we enjoy staying at them. There are two less than an hour’s drive from Ágreda; parador de Soria (41 minutes) and Parador de Calahorra (54 minutes). They may still have rooms available. The Parador at Soria is up on a hill. Two nearby sites we enjoyed are Monasterio de San Juan de Duero that is mostly a ruin and Ermita de San Saturio. There’s a short walk from the free parking lot to get to San Saturio.
