Lisbon to Sevilla in Spain

How to get from Lisbon to Sevilla? Originally was going to rent a car in Lisbon, but very pricy to pick up car in Portugal and drop off in Spain, or any place different from original rental city. Then I thought the train, but it goes through Madrid and thus takes forever? And flying was ~$350? What am I doing wrong?

(Once in Sevilla, if I can get there, then plan on taking local transportation (bus or train) to Cordoba and Granada and then flying to Zaragosa? Total time ~3 weeks in Portugal and Spain)

Dates are around the second week of June for Southern Spain.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

The only thing you might be missing is searching plane ticket prices for the discount airlines. $350 sounds like a lot compared to what others here have reported. Have you checked out Veuling? There may be a couple other discount airlines too. If you do find a cheaper flight, keep in mind that luggage policies are STRICTLY enforced and most foreign tourists need to pay extra for bags.

The train goes through Madrid but it is an overnight only. So technically you could do the overnight train and catch an early morning AVE to Sevilla and be there by noon the next day.

Rick's Portugal and Spain books recommend taking the direct bus. We have not often found cheap flights on this route, but were surprised to see some recently; try www.skyscanner.com.
