Lisbon to Madrid by Rail

Hi -
We want to travel from Lisbon to Madrid via rail this September 29th, (hopefully the night train). What is the best agency to use to book rail tickets for US residents? We have looked at Rail Europe but some posters on this forum have said they are expensive. I looked at the Spanish web site but I couldn't figure out how to see it in English.

Your advice will be very much appreciated.

Here's some great info for the trip from seat61.com. There are links to purchase the tickets.

Bill,
Have you considered flying from Lisbon to Madrid?

I just checked skyscanner for your date & you can fly on easy-Jet for as low as $25pp ( 1h 20m, Non-Stop)

Here is their website:http://www.skyscanner.com

I gave you advice on rail travel and agencies elsewhere, also a link to a guide on the subject and a link to an English language based agency with very little mark up. What your being a U.S. resident has to do with the subject I do not know.

Have you ever taken an overnight train? All good if you know what to expect.

I suggest a flight, as above, seems to be fine value.

I did the night train from Madrid to Lisbon many years ago, and it was perhaps the worst night I have ever spent on rails, including 2 night trains in India.
