Party of 5: 3 college graduates and 2 parents
Barcelona or Madrid for 2-3 days? Other days either Germany or ?? but am wondering about which of these 2 would be better for the shorter visit?
Thanks!

Barcelona -- what other days? I sorry but your question is not making a lot of sense.
Which city should we visit, Barcelona or Madrid? We only have time for 1.
Thanks,
Barcelona!
Barcelona, but it is harder to get to from other countries. You'd be coming from Germany? And flying in and out of what European cities?
Los Angeles or San Francisco? Dallas or Houston?
Well, Madrid and Barcelona are the same kind of incessant rivals. They are quite different, and I enjoy both. Madrid's main attraction are its top class art museums, particularly the Prado - simply one of the most stunning collections anywhere in the world. Barcelona has the famous Modernista architecture, particularly the work of Antoni Gaudi (but there are many other architects too).
Either one has plenty to fill 2-3 days.
Perhaps watching Rick's videos about each one will help you decide. On this link scroll down to Spain: https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/video/tv-show
Simple answer is to forget Germany and stay in Spain.
The young people will almost for sure enjoy Barcelona more. Lots of things for young people to do and it has a more exciting vibe.
Both are great choices. Have been to both and enjoyed both. I am one of those people that prefer Madrid over Barcelona if I had to choose just one.
