Someone told me leather goods, as in shoes,boots, jackets are a great find in Spain, is this true

Leather can be a good purchase there, but look carefully at the quality. Some of the better finds may be in the smaller cities and towns at the non tourist stores of course.

When I toured Turkey, I went thru a leather manufacturing place that told me that most of their products are shipped to Italy and stamped "Made in Italy" because tourists bought leather goods there rather than if they saw they were made in Turkey. I can not verify that story.
