Hi, we've usually had non stop flights to where we are traveling in Europe but this time we have a layover. We are traveling from LAX (US) to Madrid Spain with a 1.5 hour layover in Paris. We switched to smaller suitcases and just carrying them on the plane. I believe we will go through customs in Paris. Should we check our bags at LAX to save time or would we have to retrieve our bags from the carousel and then proceed thru customs in Paris? Just looking for the quickest and easiest way. Thank you.
Checked bags are checked through to your final European destination (unlike what happens in the USA).
In general, if you have carry-on luggage, it makes little sense to check it unless you have to. There is always a small risk of luggage delay.
You’ll go through immigration/passport control in Paris; customs will be Madrid. If you can get away with carryon only, then you’d at least have it in the event your flight departs lates, it takes a long time to clear immigration, and you miss the connection.
