La Rioja Tour

We are about to visit the La Rioja region in order to visit as many bodegas/wineries as possible in a few days. Any suggestions of where exactly in the region to stay would be appreciated. Plus hotel and bodega suggestions. Thank you.

I'm not a wine person but I visited Laguardia this summer. I believe it's very close to, but just outside of, the La Rioja district. Didn't spend the night so I have no hotel recommendation for you, but the town is charming (it's a medieval hill town), and there were wine bars. I think it would be a lovely place to spend a night or two. I have no idea how practical it would be from a logistical standpoint, however.

We are currently in Rioja in Logrono which is a great place to stay. It is a delightful town with great pintxos (tapas) bars, very walkable and on the Santiago de Compostela route. From my research most visits to wineries must be made at least 2 days in advance and some, but not all have tasting rooms. We are going to visit several towns close to Logrono including Laguardia, Haro, Elciego and Briones mostly to get a sense of the area and see some of the winery architecture rather than to taste wines. The wines on offer in Logrono at the pintxos bars have been great and we don't have to worry about drinking and driving. At the bars ask for Rioja Reserva; on average you will pay about €3.5 which is a terrific bargain compared to what I'd pay for a glass of wine at home. Here is a web site that lists some of the must-see wineries; I'm sure you can find a local company to arrange tours for you.
