La padrera rooftop -- fear of heights?

Hi -- very interested in the night tour of La Padrera, but will be with someone with a fear of heights. Is this a no go? What is it like?

Viz. La Pedrera rooftop tour: "will be with someone with a fear of heights. Is this a no go?"
Yes – it's a no-go. they'll maybe get awful dizzy up there and…who knows… as they faint and collapse they may colliode with some other wholly innocent person and push them over the edge and…
And, imagine, that person's fear of heights…thry've traveled to Barcelona on a plane, cruising through the skies at 30,000 feet…

I was on the roof of La Pedrera in daytime and I don't recall being close to any edges or dropoffs on the undulating walkways.
It didn't "feel" like a high place, though obviously it was. To me it felt kind of like being on the ocean, surrounded by curved surfaces like someone bobbing in waves, but always with a view of the horizon and other buildings nearby. It was probably the best part of my visit to that remarkable building. It might feel different at night, but I don't see why.

If your friend is uncomfortable up there they can go back downstairs. There's plenty to see inside.

My friend is my 12 year old, so he won't be going anywhere without me! I am a little wary because the Eiffel Tower was a disaster and more recently, he wouldn't even look at Waimea Canyon. I'll see if I can get some pics to show him, as he will not be dragged anywhere against his will ...

I have a fear of heights and went to the La Pedrera rooftop thinking it would not be a problem, but it was a big problem. I couldn’t leave quickly enough. Fear of heights is a real thing not to be taken lightly. Being on an open rooftop is not the same as flying in an airplane as anyone who has a fear of heights will tell you. I’d find something else to do that night if I were you. There are so many other things to do in Barcelona.

@Shulby524 -- thank you for this honest and helpful response. I know it is a real issue, that's why I asked.

A viable option is to consider visiting the rooms with your son and also admiring the facade of La Padrera. We took a wonderful Gaudi walking tour with Runner Bean that incorporated Gaudi sites. Just admiring the facades are magnificent & whimsical day & night. One of my prized photos is the facade of Casa Batiló. It’s Gaudi modernism at it’s finest. We did Park Güell & La Sagrada Familia on our own. I am a huge Gaudi fan. Enjoy every moment! @atkitch, that's indeed a very good question... which is very hard to respond to. While I have a bit of vertigo, I don't suffer 'fear of heights' as such. I have been on the roof at La Pedrera many times and my answer would be "yeah sure, no problem, simply don't get too close to the edge and you'll be totally fine". But again, I have a couple of friends with 'fear of heights' and they tell me it's not "only" getting too close to the edge, it's the fact they know they're high up.

So, I wouldn't know what to say, girl. I can only show you what it looks like and you can make your mind up by yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5GTSilUEF4

@enric, thank you, the video is very helpful. My son is very much like you suggested. We were in Kauai recently and even though I found a flat spot far away from the edge, he would not look down into Waimea Canyon. On the other hand, sometimes he manages things I think he won't, but it's best to prepare him and see what he's up for.

Legit question! To many it sounds ridiculous! I started my fear of heights at age 12. I don’t like flying either…but I love to travel…so I take meds. And we all have our own odd irrational triggers. I had to stay below at Eiffel Tower. Not a fan of gondolas either. But good to talk about, share and not be ashamed! Never stop or give up!

Atkitch, after looking at the helpful video I can understand better your situation. I was very uncomfortable going to the top of the Eiffel Tower because it's such an open structure. I was up there in the sky with a big Erector Set between me and a fatal plunge. I didn't have the problem at Waimea Canyon, maybe because we didn't go all the way to the top.

All I can say is that La Pedrera has a lot to see besides the roof, so maybe a worthwhile destination anyway. Or you could get your Gaudi fix at the smaller buildings in the "Block of Discord" nearby, and/or Park Guell.

We will for sure go there one way or another, but the matter of the roof will remain unsettled for a while. I try not to get frustrated with him, and everyone has something. I used to enjoy boat rides until about three years ago -- we went out on a snorkeling boat and a canoe in Maui, and both times, I felt kind of gross (motion sickness-wise) and could not enjoy it, especially when the boat wasn't moving. Then COVID hit, we didn't travel for a while, and I kind of forgot. We went to Sorrento and took a boat to Capri, for which I had not prepared or even thought about taking meds ... and let's say it did NOT go well. Next time we went to Hawaii, I came prepared with meds, but the Capri experience was so powerfully bad that when I read that the Napali Coast boat tours were choppy in winter and SIX hours long, I could not bring myself to see how effective the medicine was. It was a no go for me, so if we have to miss this one for him, that's what we will do.
