Hello everyone who is considering traveling solo to Spain.. especially females! I just got back from 12 days of solo traveling at age 65 and had the most amazing time! I would not change one thing that I did on this trip! Well, except I would stay longer! I stayed at the "only you atacha Hotel" in Madrid directly across from the Atacha train station. I could walk everywhere that I wanted to go with no problem. I covered a lot of ground in Madrid. I stayed there 3 days and then rented a car at the airport and drove to Ronda. Ronda is a must do! My studio apartment that I rented had a million dollar View for $72 euro a night! I used that as my base and drove to Malaga and went to the Picasso Museum as well as other places of interest. I drove the most famous Road in south of Spain to San Pedro Alcantara to the beach! Then, after 6 days, turned my car in and spent two and a half more days in Madrid. I don't think there's anything in the city that I did not see or do on foot! It was a trip I will always remember! I did, however, get a speeding ticket! So, keep an eye on the speed limit! They were very nice and it was $50 Euro. On to the next trip!
I agree that Spain is great and traveling solo is not an issue. :)
Glad that you enjoyed! It’s a great city with a lot todo and see. I agree that it is very walkable, has great art, great food and a very nice feel. I will have to put Ronda on my growing list of places to see.
Hi Kate,
Do you have any recommendations for restaurants in Madrid? We will be there in December.
Thanks!

If wanting to eat at Sobrino de Botín make your reservation early. We tried to reserve a table last month a few days before arriving in Madrid and the only available seating was 10:30pm. We skipped it and my wife had cochinillo in La Granja/Real Sitio de San Ildefonso instead.
These are not restaurants, per se, but they serve some really good sweets/snacks:
La Mallorquina - pastries
San Gines - Churros
Bar La Campana - Bocadillos
I ate at this restaurant twice "El Jardin De Arzabal." I had their red tuna on sushi rice! It was fabulous!
What was the name of the accommodation with the view on Ronda?
https://air.tl/U2WLUKaM is the link for the air b&b studio apartment in Ronda! It's perfect for two people and you can literally walk to everything in Ronda from there! The view from the terrace is unbelievable!
