June or Sept in Spain

Hello all,

Going to Spain for 2.5 weeks: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Granada (day trips as well to girona, cordoba, Toledo, Costa Brava)

Should I go first week June or first week sept?

Let me know, and why you prefer your choice :)

Those are my 2 options, please stick to the decision between the two!

Edit: I’m seeing that many are saying weather wise it won’t make a difference…. If I push it earlier and went and of may…. Thoughts?

Thank you so much.

It's likely to be very hot in Seville and Cordoba, and also bad in Madrid and Granada, during both of those periods. I'd look at the actual, day-by-day, historical weather statistics for Seville over the last five years or so for potential travel periods. Then I'd choose the least bad. Or I'd decide to go north and west from Barcelona rather than south. The northern coast of Spain between Galicia and the Basque Country has a completely different climate from what you get in Andalucia. It's a great place to go in the summer or almost-summer.

Don't just look at 2024; weather patterns can be very different from one year to the next. Use the pull-down box at the right, just above the graph, to display data for additional years. If you want to check out other cities, use the Search box.

Both will be quite hot, September possibly the hotter. Sea (and unheated pools) warmer in September. Both oufside European school holidays.
I'd have no preference.

I don't think it will matter much whether it's may or June. Our last trip to Sevilla/Granada was in October and the weather was ridiculously hot. I agree with the other poster who said that it might be best to consider Northern Spain during this time frame.

Both options are during the main tourist season so there will be plenty of tourists in the locations you want to visit.

By September most children will be back in school so crowds will be a little thinner. Airfares tend be be higher June-August as do accommodations. You may be able to get better deals in September.

With regard to weather it isn’t going to matter much. The last time we were in Granada it was in September 2014 and Spain was in a heat wave. The temperature was in the 90s every day in eastern Andalucía. For me, the heat is a non factor when deciding which month to travel in.

I thought September would be cooler…. Like let’s say I go mid September but it appears I’m wrong!

Weather is the only reason. I’m asking this question. I though perhaps mid sept would be cooler than early June

If I went end of may, would it make a difference?

It will still be warm in the south, but not as hot as it will be in June.

Our last May trip to Spain was 2022 and there were days when jackets were needed. On that trip we focused on mainly the La Rioja and Aragón regions. Our 2017 trip to Spain was also in late May and long sleeve shirts or jackets were needed in a few places north and west of Madrid.

We normally visit in May, September, or October.

I am from South Georgia in the USA where it is hot in the Summer. I had no problem visit Spain in the Summer.
Of course, I understand others may have a problem.
We did a tour of northern Spain and southern France in early May and had to wear jackets part of the time.
