Jan 6 in Madrid

I understand that January 6 is a holiday. We will be in Madrid for the day - can you tell me what is open in theory? Will the local markets be open?

Not only a holiday...it´s the BIG day for presents in Spain, as this date marks the arrival of the Three Magic Kings (no Santa here), with a huge parade in every city in Spain (and of course, Madrid) on the evening of Jan 5. Most places will be closed, as it´s an important family day.

Think of it like Christmas Day in the USA, this is when the children of Spain get their presents. So most places are closed. As mentioned on Jan 5th there is a huge parade in the major cities all over Spain in honour of the Three Kings (Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos), it will be a great festive experience in our local culture.
