Itinerary help, Seville-based 8-night Andalusian trip

Looking for some help in planning the optimal itinerary for a trip beginning and ending in Seville, seven full days not counting the first day late arrival in Seville, and early departure on day 8 (trip is late January). We don't plan to rent a car, and aren't in agreement on whether we should use Seville as a spoke for day trips to Cordoba and Granada, or stay over in one or both of those cities. We also are interested in visiting either Cadiz/Jerez or Gibralter. Originally had also thought about a day trip to Tangier but that seems like too much energy for a day.

Would appreciate any feedback on anyone's thoughts for the best way for us to get a good experience of this region - realize it's a short trip (and we cannot change the duration). Realize that we can't do it all, but we're comfortable with a busy itinerary and pack light. We're equally interested in culture/arts/museums as on natural beauty, small towns, etc.

There are many posts on this subject. With seven full days, you need to concentrate on Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada. You don't have time for anything else, and some would say you don't have time for even the three cities. Granada is far for a day trip, and seeing the Alhambra at night is special. I also typically recommend Cordoba as an overnight, there is a lot to do there and the city is quite nice in the morning and evening. But, in your case, I'd do it as a day trip from Sevilla.

Are you flying in any out of Sevilla? That impacts how I'd split up your stay.

Personally, I'd want at least an overnight in Córdoba and in Granada, and 2 nights would be much better. If you only do an overnight in Granada, you have to get up in the morning, check out of your hotel before visiting the Alhambra, then back to your hotel to gather your luggage and then to the train station for the 3-hour trip back to Seville.

The problem is you have a late arrival on Day 0 and an early departure on Day 8, which I assume means you need to stay in Seville on your first and last nights. Otherwise, I'd recommend heading directly for Córdoba when you arrive and staing there on your first 2 nights.

A day trip to Córdoba by train is definitely doable; it's just an hour from Seville, and then a 25-30 minute walk or short taxi ride from the station to the Mezquita and the Jewish quarter and other sites of interest.

There are companies that run day trips from Seville to all the places you are interested in. I'd suggest researching those and seeing if they are compatible with your travel style. Check the train and bus routes and see how long each trip would take if you did it as a day trip on your own. Then decide.
