June 2023 - Spain and possibly France w/kids (9 nights)

!Hola! My family recently just got back to the US from a 9-night trip to Iceland. It was amazing with lots of memories made.
We took our 4-year old and 6-year old children. We are already planning our next European Vacation for June of 2023. Our family of four have already traveled to Portugal, Iceland, and Ireland twice so we do have the experience and patience (haha) to travel with young children.

We are considering a 9-night trip next June 2023. We would fly into Madrid and either out of Madrid or possibly France. If we do fly out of France, it would avoid backtracking when traveling back to Madrid from Northern Spain.

We love short hikes and local foods, beer, and wine. We also enjoy beaches, pools, playgrounds, parks, and any activities that are kid-friendly and educational. Scenery and architecture is important too.

So here is my potential itinerary:
Base 1: Madrid (2 or 3 nights)
Base 2: Logroño or LaRiojoa (2 or 3 nights)
Base 3: Bordeaux, France (3 or 4 nights)

Do you recommend visiting this region with children?
Do you recommend renting a car (versus train)?
Do you think the trip would be too ambitious to add France a third base?

Thanks in advance

You don’t need a car for Madrid and it’s easy to get to Logroño by train. I’m sure Dave from Logroño will chime in, but that city has two streets known for their tapas; Calle del Laurel and I believe Calle San Juan. The city itself has no absolutely must see sights but is nice for relaxing. Depending on what you wanted to do in the area, a rental car could come in handy. My wife and I recently spent six nights between the nearby towns of Santo Domingo de La Calzada and Olite, taking day trips from each. We could easily have spent another 4 or 5 days as there are so many things to see in the area.
