Itinerary help needed for South of Spain

We are spending 9 nights in the South of Spain in October. We would like to spend time in city, hills and by the ocean. Help with an Itinerary would be most appreciated....

Very generic question. A few places everybody mentions include Sevilla, Cordoba, Ronda, white towns, Granada. Other places frequently mentioned places include Cadiz, Malaga, Nerja, Jerez de la Frontera, Arcos de la Frontera. Further east that few people mention are Mojacar and Almeria. There are also national parks and a number of small towns with castles or unique things to see.

Essentially, where you will want to visit will depend on your likes and how you're getting around.

For the ocean, you have to go to Cadiz. Lots of beach, interesting historic center, and you can day trip from Sevilla. Or you could go to Malaga to the sea coast. Cadiz is a slightly shorter train ride and the center and beach are walking distance from the train station. Malaga's train station is a couple kilometers from the historic center and beach.

You can day trip to the hill town of Arcos by bus from Jerez (take a train from Sevilla or Cadiz). To explore the hill towns for 2-3 days, you'll want a car.

One possibility is to fly into Malaga and out of Sevilla. Starting in Malaga lets you relax and enjoy the beach and this low-key city for a couple days while you get over jetlag. Then rent a car, drive through the hills (staying in Ronda is my choice) and drop the car in Cordoba. From there, train to Sevilla.

If you don't want to drive, then you might do better to fly round-trip Sevilla and spend a couple beach days in Cadiz. Consider stays in Cordoba and Jerez or Arcos.

Would you tell us what airports you are arriving and departing from? Helps us recommend things in the middle. Also, are you wanting to keep to the coast, or see places like Seville, Granada or Cordoba? More information required. Perhaps some pre-reading of the area can provide some specifics we can work from.
