Itinerary help for 8 days in southern spain

I will be traveling to spain this fall with 8 days and wanting to visit southern Spain. We fly in and out of Madrid but have already visited Madrid. I know we want to spend 1 day at a beach town either Malaga or Nerja( or any recommended city). We also want to spend time in Granada to see the Alhambra. The biggest question remains travel between cities, just use AVE? order of cities? and whether to add Cordoba or Seville

I am thinking
2.5 days Granada, 1 day beach, 3 days Seville/Cordoba and 1 night Madrid before flying back out

Thoughts/suggestions?

You will pass through Cordoba on the train on the way to Granada. You will also pass through Cordoba on the way from Granada to Sevilla.

http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/index.html

Day 1 Madrid to Granada

Day 2 Granada

Day 3 Trip to Malaga/Nerja

Day 4 Back to Granada and on to Cordoba

Day 5 tour Cordoba and go on to Sevilla for the night

Day 6 Sevilla

Day 7 Sevilla and catch a late train to Madrid

Day 8 depart.

Our flight out of Madrid was in the afternoon so we came up from Cordoba that day. If you can do that put off Cordoba till you are coming back from Sevilla.

Cordoba is my favorite Spanish city, but there are more sights in Sevilla. I try to avoid hotel changes. Factoring these in, you could stay in Granada, Sevilla, and Madrid. You could day trip to Malaga from Granada (it's about 1.5 hours on the bus). There are buses at 8.45, 9.00, 9.30, 9.45 . . . . and frequent buses in the evening back to Granada. You could day trip to Cordoba from Sevilla (45 min by train) or you could stop between Sevilla-Madrid for the day (there's luggage storage at the bus station across the street from the train).

I meant to add - use renfe.com for train schedules and alsa.com for bus schedules.

Is the best travel option to chose AVE train from Madrid to Seville/Granada and back to Madrid and then for travel between Cordoba/Seville/Granada/Malaga to use buses?

Look at the renfe site and see what the train options are between each pair of cities you plan to visit. If you choose Cadiz (Atlantic) or Malaga (Mediterranean), I think there are trains between all of them, but often the bus is better for Malaga/Granada and possibly for Granada to other towns, because they are more frequent than the trains.
