Itinerary for Andalucia....FINALLY!

After three years of booking and cancelling due to COVID and other life evets we are now planning to go in April of 2023. I propose this basic itinerary and would appreciate your comments. (Last trip we went to Madrid, Malaga, Granada, Ronda, Estepona and Marbella)

Fly into Madrid and immediately Renfe to Sevilla (ears can't take two flights in one day)
Two full days in Sevilla
Travel (probably by car) to Jerez for the day and then on to Cadiz that night
Two full days in Cadiz
Travel to Carmona and tour for one day, overnight in Carmona
Travel to Cordoba and tour one day, overnight in Cordoba
Travel back to Madrid (Renfe) and two full days there
Flight back home from Madrid

I realize that I'm backtracking a bit going to Madrid rather than an open jaw flight but I had to use some Iberia vouchers and that round trip was the best deal.

Most people recommend longer in Sevilla. I dislike two-night stays even more than one-night stays, but that's a personal preference. If you like this pace, then you need only list what you want to see to determine if there is sufficient time.

I agree with what valadelphia shared.

I'll also add that 2 days isn't enough to do Madrid much justice. You might want to cut Madrid to just the night before your flight out, save it for a proper visit, and reallocate that time in Andalucia.

You really don't have enough time in Seville. I agree with Nick about Carmona. I enjoyed a day trip there and have recommended it on this forum, but I'd never recommend it in lieu of a third day in Seville.

I highly recommend spending 4 nights in Seville which will give you 3 full days. Seville is beautiful and rich with important historical and cultural sites. The Real Alcazar is stunning and ranks a close second to the Alhambra. Visit the cathedral, casa di Pilatos, the beautiful plaza de espagna, wander the barrio Santa Cruz, the Triana neighborhood and Triana market. Have drinks at parque maria Luisa, take a carriage ride, see a flamenco show. There are other places we didn’t have time for.

Since you have been to Madrid then perhaps you could delete one night from Madrid and give it to Seville.

Not sure when in April you are going, but know that these two big cultural events: Semana Santa (April 2 - 10) and the Feria de Abril (April 23 -29) may impact your travels in the area.

Hotel rates in Seville (especially) ramp up during Semana Santa, and cancellation policies become stricter. Choices are probably also picked-over at this point.

Carlos: Our current plan is to arrive in Sevilla on Tuesday April 11 (after Semana Santa) and we depart for home from Madrid on Saturday April 22. I don't think we will run into much in the way of festivals which, in a way, is unfortunate but it's how our timing works out.

I have a similar question. I spoke yesterday with an agency in Seville, the second we stay two days to visit Seville (we are 2 adults and three children) and then we do several excursions for 4 days. I wonder if the CaminitoRey is not dangerous for children. Has anyone ever done it? My youngest boy is 10 years old. This command trip can be good ¿? thanks. Sonia.

@dlsonia.montes - according to its website children must be at least 8 years old to walk the Caminito Del Rey. Children will need an original ID to prove their age. Since all children are different, I’ll suggest you look at some photos of the walk to determine if you think it’s suitable for your children.

I would skip Carmona (adding a night in Seville instead), and I would not use a car to go to Cadiz. Since you are planning two full days there, you could head straight to Cadiz by train, and use one of the days to visit Jerez as a day trip. Sure, it feels like backtracking, but you won't have to deal with parking a car full of luggage (often risky in southern Spain!) or, if you use public transportation, to deal with luggage storage in Jerez.
