Itinerary check - Andalusia & Barcelona

Hi all,

Looking for some opinions and feedback on my proposed iten for a trip this summer. Its my first trip to Spain ever, so wanted to get a flavor of the best places. Taking the whole family, of 4. Maybe there's a better plan?

Must start from Rome and must end in Barcelona. Everything else is variable still.

Day 1: Fly from Rome to Malaga, arrive 5:30pm, rental car, drive to Granada (1hr+), hotel.
Day 2: Granada, do Alhambra tour in the morning & early afternoon. Drive to Seville (3hrs+), vacation rental or hotel. Drop car.
Day 3: Seville
Day 4: Seville, maybe day trip to Cordoba via train (50mins each way)?
Day 5: Seville
Day 6: Fly Seville to Barcelona in the morning, vacation rental in Barcelona.
Day 7: Barcelona
Day 8: Barcelona, maybe day trip somewhere?
Day 9: Barcelona
Day 10: Barcelona, fly home mid-morning.

Rental cars are a bit expensive from Malaga to Seville, but I can't see another way to do it with 4 people.

Is this a reasonable plan? Better way to do it?

We were considering Rome to Madrid, but its hard to work in Granada if we do that instead.

Love to hear your thoughts.

Stillerz,

If you don't want to rent a car, you can easily travel from Malaga to Granada via public bus:https://www.alsa.es/en/home

Malaga >> Granada = 1.5-2 hours travel time, depending on time of departure.

You can also travel from Granada to Seville via train or bus. Same bus company as above.

Granada >> Seville = 3 hours travel time via bus.

You may check train schedules here:http://www.renfe.com

Be aware that this option involves a bus-train combination, due to railway renovations around Granada that have not been completed yet.

I'd suggest booking your Alhambra tickets ASAP, because they are selling very fast!

You may book your Alhambra tickets here; http://www.alhambra-patronato.es

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you!

However, given our timeframes and that there are 4 of us, we're probably going to need to drive for the first part of the trip.

Another option ...

Day 1 Fly to Malaga. Train to Córdoba.
Day 2 Mezquita, then train to Sevilla.
Day 3 Sevilla sights (Alcazar, Cathedral).
Day 4 Drive to Granada via Ronda.
Day 5 Granada sights (Alhambra).
Day 6 Fly to Barcelona.

Busses from Malaga to Granada are plentify, nice and inexpensive. I think I paid around 12 euros for the bus ride and it took about 90 minutes. The Renfe bus/train combo can't be booked until about 3 weeks in advance. I think I paid 30 euros(?) BUT the ride was long and tedious. I want to say it took 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Granada deserves much more time than you are giving it. I was there 4 nights and need to go back because I didn't feel I saw enought. I echo the comment about booking Alhambra as soon as you know when you will be there. Except during the off-season, it might be difficult to get tickets.

I would do 5 full days in Sevilla but overall, I think you are trying to do too much in the limited time.
