Four of us are traveling from Philadelphia to spend 10 days on the ground in Andalusia in September 2025 (postponed trip from 2020).
This is our plan.
Fly into Madrid- train to Cordoba - stay 2 nights
Train to Seville- stay 3 nights
Drive or private driver, or train to Ronda - stay 2 nights (one of the days do a day trip with private driver to Zahara, Setenil)
Train to Granada- stay 2 nights
Train to Madrid on day 11 and stay near the airport, leave day 12
What are you thoughts about the itinerary and getting a train from Granada to Madrid? We could switch things around and do Granada after Cordoba and Seville last as well. We would like to fly out of Phila because of the direct flights. Looked into flying from Newark or even into Malaga and prices too high or not direct.
Suggestions appreciated.
I found a day trip from Seville to Ronda, Setenil and Zahara on Airbnb experiences for about 125$. Ultimately I decided against it this trip, but if something like that interests you maybe you could cut out the nights in Ronda and add them to Seville?
If you wanted to drive, ensure you get an IDP at AAA before going over there.
With a car you could drive one of two ways to Ronda from Sevilla.
1. Head south from Sevilla and head to Arcos de la Frontera. From it, go east and you could visit Grazalema and Zahara de la Sierra en route to Ronda.
2. From Sevilla head southeast, visiting Olvera and Setenil de la Bodegas en route to Ronda. Setenil is a 25 minutes drive north of Ronda while Zahara is a 40 minutes west. It would save some time if you could visit one of the towns en route to Ronda since you wouldn’t need to double back. One full day in Ronda is sufficient and many can see it in a half day.
After Ronda you could drive the couple hours to Granada and turn the car in there.
Since I always have a rental car, I’m unfamiliar with public transportation options between Sevilla, Ronda, and Granada.
Since you’ll arrive in Madrid take a nonstop flight to Granada and work your way back to Madrid where you’ll fly home from.
From Granada take a train to Ronda that will require a transfer at Antequera-Santa Ana. There is a late afternoon direct train from Ronda to Córdoba. There are also direct trains from Córdoba to Sevilla and Sevilla to Madrid: https://www.renfe.com/es/en.
