Itinerary Advice - 6 Days in Barcelona

I'll be in Barcelona the second week in October and have put together the following itinerary, using many of the posts from this forum. One issue I see is that the first Sunday of each month the Picasso museum is free so it'll be even more crowded than usual. I have free time my last day, but hate to wait until then to visit that museum. I plan to get the ArtTicket BCN so I can skip lines and I will book the first ticket of the day. (I think you still have to book even on free days.) Is that crazy?! Maybe I should switch the Friday itinerary with Sunday, but then I'd miss either the Palau de la Musica Catalana performance or the Magic Fountains. Wish there was a match at Camp Nou but the team is in Valencia that week!

Appreciate feedback and tips!

Quick question - for Saturday, are you visiting Montserrat as part of a tour or on your own? It probably will not take up your entire day (closer to half a day). I'm thinking, if you are a fan of FC Barcelona, you could consider adding the Camp Nou museum/tour in the morning or afternoon (depending on when you visit Montserrat).

For your Sunday exploring the Bari Gotic, there is a pretty good (and overlooked) history museum called Museu d'Historia de Barcelona - MUHBA. It houses the subterranean ruins of Roman Barcelona (Barcino) along with the medieval royal palace, Plaça del Rei, which is built above the ruins. For me, the really cool part is the 4,000 square meter Roman subterranean archaeological site, directly below the Gothic Quarter. (you actually have to take an elevator down!)

If you get hungry while exploring El Born, there is a pretty good tapas bar called Bar Celta Pulperia, that specialises in Galician Octopus (Pulpo a la Gallega). Personally my favorite tapa is called Pimientos de Padron, which is another Galician treat. Bar Celta has two locations, in the Gothic Quarter and one in El Born. There will probably be some tourists but also a good amount of locals too! :)

Thank you Carlos! Yes, I'm going to Monserrat on my own. The MUHBA and Plaça del Rei sound interesting. I think I'll have time on Sunday to check those out. Thanks for the tapas recommendation too!

I think the Palau Guell also has free admission one day a month, and it may be your day. I can't currently hit the PG website to check. If it's the free day, you'll almost certainly need to swing by the site earlier in the day to get a ticket. The place isn't as overrun as Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, but there were people waiting outside the two times I went by there.

The Picasso Museum is a nightmare nearly all the time. I don't know that it will be any more crowded on the free day, but it will be harder to get a ticket at all.

Thanks acraven.

I learned that with the ArtTicket, advance timed reservations aren't necessary. That alone makes it worth it to me, even if I make it to only 2 or 3 of the 6 museums. I hope to do at least 3 this time, and ArtTicket is good for a full year!
