Itinerary Advice

We are traveling to Spain in April with our adult daughter. This is a rough draft of our itinerary. On our vacations we tend to stay out from 7-8am until 11pm sightseeing. We love to walk through neighborhoods and window shop. We are an active family. If you have recommendations let me know :)

Day 1 - Arrive in Barcelona at 9am, drop luggage off at hotel luggage hold. Walk around Ramblas have lunch walk around La Boqueria Market. Back to hotel to rest. Night walking tour of Old Town.

Day 2 - Tour Parc Guell and Sagrada Familia. Lunch in afternoon and walk around any sites that the family wants to revisit from the day before.

Day 3 - Gaudi Modernist Tour in the morning. Walk around at night wherever the family wants to revisit and have dinner.

Day 4 - Take train to Seville. We are staying near Sagrada Familia. Does anyone have any recommendations on which train station we would take off from to Seville. Arrive in Seville- walk around town after dropping luggage off. Flamenco Show at night.

Day 5 - Alcazar and Cathedral Tour in the morning. Have lunch and walk around Barrio Santa Cruz.

Day 6 - Take a market tour and cooking class. After the class explore Triana neighborhood.

Day 7 - Day Trip Tour of Tangier. My daughter wants to do this. We have done very long day trips in the past and can handle a very long day.

Day 8 - Take the early train back to Barcelona. Walk around Jewish Quarter and Barcelona Cathedral and have dinner.

Day 9 - Open - Get a Covid test.

Day 10 - Fly back to U.S.

Hi,
I do have a few comments:

  • You are staying in Barcelona twice, which wastes time. Are your flights booked yet? If not, you might want to look at flights into Seville and out of Barcelona, or vice versa. And if they are booked, I would book a flight to Seville out of Barcelona on arrival day, maybe 4 hours after the scheduled landing to make up for delays. I would then start with the Seville portion of the trip.

  • I am sorry to say that a day trip to Tangier is a terrible idea. Tangier in itself is a fine destination (although many forum members won't even agree with that...), but a day trip exposes you to a LOT of hassle for little benefit. 5-6 hours on a bus round trip from Seville to the port, 2-3 hour round trip crossing, border formalities... I let you count what's left for Tangier. And if that doesn't deter you, many people complain about the very aggressive touts / coerced shopping involved in many of the tours.

  • Córdoba is a much better day trip from Seville, and it will let you experience some historical Islamic culture.

SKIP TANGIER, it is a not worth going to see. There are great places to visit in Morocco (Marrakesh, Rabat and Fes, among others) but Tangier is not one of them. Stay and enjoy Spain more.

I also agree with Balso about booking open-jaw or multi-city tickets. Into Barcelona and home from Seville, or vice versa. You are wasting precious time by backtracking to Barcelona. And a daytrip to amazing Cordoba is more worthwhile than going to Tangier for a day. Cordoba has the magnificent Mezquita, Alcazar gardens, lovely Juderia with its white-washed buildings, patios, etc. April is a spectacular month for Andalusia weather-wise.

Or try to fit in a visit to Granada for a night or two and see the spectacular Alhambra. If you purchase multi-city tickets and omit Tangier from your itinerary, you might have time for Granada.
