Rick's info still says there is a live call to prayer from the Grand Mosque near the Mirador San Nicolas. However, when I asked in one or two areas of TripAdvisor, I was told there is none. One replied no 'amplified', the other said that like North America, Europe does no more call to prayer.
I happen to like the call to prayer and in Egypt got used to watching sunset to the sounds of sometimes competing village calls. As far as I could tell, these were not amplified.
So, has anyone heard the live call to prayer from the Grand Mosque in the past year, and if so, did they have to be in the Mosque compound to hear it?
Thanks.
Maria,
I don't recall hearing the call to prayer when we visited Granada in October of 2015.
We had dinner at a restaurant across the street from the mirador (right around sunset) & we did not hear the call to prayer then either.
I like the sound of the bells from the various churches when visiting Spain.
Thanks for the confirmation Priscilla.
Rick's continued notes for Granada is confusing then. Oh well.
Maria,
I hope someone who has been there more recently will confirm.
I just checked their website but didn't find any information about it.
We stayed just a few blocks from the Mosque in late March 2016 and did not hear a call to prayer. It was a little disappointing. Our view of the Alhambra from our large terrace made up for it though.
Maybe there is live - they just don't project......don't want to disturb the neighbours ;-) Makes sense if one considers their history. I'll just readjust my expectations. Thanks.
I never heard one in my days there. Plus in the current socio-economic climate, I doubt it would be welcomed there.
