Is Lavapies neighborhood in Madrid safe

My husband and I will be in Madrid in late April for five nights. I am looking a Airbnb options and have found a very appealing apartment in the Lavapies neighborhood. Best I can determine in is in the area bound by Calle de la Fe to the south, Calle de la Primavera to the west and Calle Buenavista to the west. I have researched the Lavapies neighborhood and seen it declared unsafe for tourists on some sites, while others say conditions have improved dramatically over the last 10 years. I would appreciate comments from the forum on this specific questions, as well as Madrid neighborhoods to seek out and avoid. Thanks.

I felt perfectly safe there in October 2017. We stayed at the Artrip, enjoyed the convenience of being within walking distance of the Atocha train station and the museums, and the great restaurants suggested by the hotel staff. I loved the street art and the diverse mix of people enjoying themselves on the streets.

We went to O Pazo de Lugo every day, for food, drink, or both.

We stayed at an Airbnb on Ronda de Atocha, across from Renia Sofia, in April of last year and felt completely safe. We found it a good location for seeing the sights and also convenient to Atocha Station when getting to and from the airport. We were not aware of any concerns re the area and never for a minute questioned the area's safety while we were there for 4 nights.
We really enjoyed Madrid and hope you do as well!
