We are seasoned travelers and I do the trip planning with the help of Rick's books, this forum and watching You Tube videos. We are familiar with public transportation in Spain, too. We do enjoy the knowledge a tour guide can give, however, so I can't decide if it's worth the price. We are also not crazy about a rushed itinerary and a large group. Any advice is appreciated. And if you have taken a great tour, please share.
If you are seasoned travelers, and know how to get yourself to the train station at Plaça Espanya, and how to buy a ticket and decide which stop to get off (there's a stop for the aerial cable car and another for the funicular), then you don't need a tour. DIY and read up or get a guide book on what you are seeing - the black madonna, the museum, the boys choir, etc.
IMHO you don't need a guided tour to see and appreciate what you are seeing at Montserrat
Thanks, Derek.
You confirmed my initial thoughts on this.
The tourist information office in Barcelona sold us a ticket that included the subway, train, the cable car and admission to Monserrat. I had wondered about all the connections too and it was busy and the train crowded but it was a fun day on our own. Have you looked at montserratvsita.com? You can book online for the train, rack railway RT from Barcelona, with entry for 44,30 euro.
@Vicki---When are you visiting? Please share your public transportation experience when you return. We'll be visiting in Oct 2024.
