Is it safe for a solo female to walk in Barcelona at night

Hi! I'm getting ready to book an evening food tour for Barcelona in June (discount right now), and I'm wondering if it's safe for a single female to walk around Barcelona at night? The area is from Els Tres Tombs to Catalona Portal de l'Angel Hotel. It will be about 9:30pm and I'm sure that the town is just starting to get going at that time!! I'm a savvy, aware traveler:)

Thanks for any insights.

As with any city, always be aware of your surroundings and try to stick to main roads. Other than that, you certainly won't be the only one out andI think you will be fine.

Sounds like a fun tour! Does it begin or end at El Tres Tombs?

Looking at Google Maps, it turns out I walked home through that same neighborhood by myself after midnight in July. There should be people around at 9:30 pm. And perhaps you can walk back with other people from your food tour.

If you are at all concerned, take the larger street up to Plaça Catalunya, rather than going through the narrow streets of Ciutat Vella.

Hi Barbara, my advice would be not to walk back by yourself in this area at night. You would have to walk through the entire Raval neighborhood, which is rather seedy with some unsafe areas at night. It can also be difficult to navigate el Raval in the dark, and is easy to get lost for people not familiar with the area.

You should take a taxi back to your hotel from Els Tres Tombs. While most of Barcelona is relatively safe at night, personally, I would not walk through the Raval neighborhood at night by myself, and I'm from Barcelona.

Thanks so much for all of your advice!

How about using the metro? (And, if not, a cab would be okay too).

I think that using the metro would be fine too. I believe there is a metro stop close by at ronda Sant Antoni.

Barbara.... 9:30 pm is not "night" over here :))))) Keep in mind many stores close between 8:30 and 9:30, therefore, there're plenty of people around. Not counting also those going out for dinner, of course.

Besides, Barcelona is a safe city -generally speaking- if compared to many other Western cities its size. Still, as in any city, basic precautions are always in order. If you're a savvy aware traveller you know what I'm talking about.

While I generally agree with the good advice of fellow Barcelonian Carlos, in this one I don't as you wouldn't have to be near the area I presume Carlos is thinking about -which is in the "lower" side of El Raval. In fact, you'd be walking by Pintor Fortuny street to go to your hotel, which is an OK street to walk: http://bit.ly/2R9p9Yz Honestly, you'll see for yourself, it's far easier than taking a cab. Metro is out of the question cause you'd be wasting a long time for such a short distance.

Furthermore, if you're talking about a Fri or Sat, then is "safer" than ever as lots of Barcelonans (really, lots!) go out for dinner/clubbing, etc.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I'll have been in Barcelona for 3 days by that point, so I can "scope out" the area. And it appears the sun will set at 9:25pm that day, so it'll still be twilight when I'm done!

Ah, so you're most probably coming in June then, right? :)

... just follow the route I suggested and you'll enjoy your stroll back to the hotel, you'll see.
