Is it better to buy at my destination?

Hello,

I am new to this forum and will be traveling to Spain and Italy for the first time. I always get stopped and searched by TSA when I pack my salicylic acid in my carry-on and would like to buy it there instead. I don't want to check in my luggage either, which would be my other option. Does anyone know if salicylic acid is sold in Barcelona and Venice? It usually comes in liquid form or as soaked pads in a container. Thanks for your help!

Kindly,
Christine

Yes, of course, you're not visiting the moon or Antarctica you know, LOL! More than half of the world's biggest labs are headquartered here in Europe anyway.

When in Barcelona, just head to any pharmacy and ask for it, also in English -most staff can manage, even if basic English. As far as I know, you can find it in ointment/cream but also in liquid, I guess it depends on what you want it for. Brands like Eucerin, Biretix, Caudalié... Just take a pic of the composition of your favourite brand and I am sure the pharmacist will be able to find it -or something close to it.

Good to know as well that there are hundreds of pharmacists in the city, just look for a red (or green) cross -like this, or ask for directions to the closest one. You won't have to walk more than a few hundred yards to find one, regardless where you are in the city. You will also find it in beauty shops if it's not considered a medicine/drug -which I don't know, sorry- in which case only pharmacists would be able to sell it. And again, plenty of beauty shops around, some from big chains too, some international brands (Sephora, L'Occitane, Mary Kay...)

Enjoy!

In case of doubt, here is the translation of the main active: ácido salicilico.

Not sure what form your salicylic acid is in ...cream, or liquid, but one suggestion might be to decant it into a smaller container? I carried several OTC liquid medications in addition to my 3-1-1 bag and sailed through security. I did need some saline spray while in Italy and it was 9 euro from the pharmacy. Same thing that I can get in the states for less than $2 thus the suggestion to try to decant in smaller portion. If you have time before your trip and you are unsure of how much you need, you could experiment with the smaller container to see if it would be enough.
