Is Granada worth it?

Hi Guys,

I hope all is well.

I'm going to Spain June 27th- July 15th. I land in Barcelona, then go to Pamplona, then to San Sebastian, make my way to Madrid, and back to Barcelona.

I was wondering if I could fit Granada in there for a night, but it doesn't look like it.

Keep in mind, I'll would only be able to do Granada at the beginning of my trip or at the end.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

I'm hesitant to chime in here because everyone's likes are different, but I really liked Seville's Alcazar much more than Granada's Alhambra, and I'm thinking that plays a part in your reason to visit. I was there in March when the gardens were not too impressive, which probably colored my view. Since Granada is the outlier, and time is short, it would be an easy one for me to drop. You didn't mention how you are connecting places, but I did 2 1/2 weeks with a car and remember that driving was easy, but distances were long. Spain is a bigger country than I first thought!

Granada is well out of your way from your intermediate destinations, as well as the begin/end city of Barcelona. Transport costs plus time, and so much to see at your included destinations, argue in the negative. My impression of Granada was it's pleasant enough, while the Alhambra complex impressive. However, I have no desire to return and should not have included in my itinerary. I can see the bricks coming my way now.

@Bruce,
I was feeling the bricks when I posted, too.

Ruth, I feel exactly the same way. I am glad I saw the Alhambra, but I really loved the Sevilla Alcázar (which I saw first).

I must agree with most of the posters above - save Granada for another day and another trip. Perhaps next year you can spend a few weeks in Andalucia, and give Granada and the Alhambra its due.

Wow. So glad to see people say they loved the Alcazar as much or even more than Alhambra. I thought I was the only one.

Granada is worth it if you go to Alhambra, but it's too late in the game to buy tickets. They are sold out months in advance. Save it for the next trip when you can plan ahead enough to buy tickets.

I love Granada, it's one of my favorite places in the world. However, it is too far for such a short visit. Not worth it for this particular itinerary. Overall, it is well worth it but there's only so much time one should waste in transit!

Too much hopping especially for one night in Granada. Another trip for that whole region around Granada, which we loved but were able to spend 3 nights there (one too many because of a rail strike).

Great idea, but probably impossible, stay in northern Spain, you will want to stay in San Sebastián rest of life. So many other options in northern Spain; Salamanca, Segovia, El Escorial, Gerona, Dali Fegueres, etc. save Granada when you do Southern Spain.
