IRYO launching Barcelona-Sevilla service (bypassing Madrid)

Until now, the new, private train operator has only run trains in and out of Madrid, and not even sold connecting tickets.

Starting next month they'll offer service linking the 2nd and 4th largest cities, without the train even passing through the capital.

The email I got is only in Spanish, and I can't find an English-language announcement online. Sharing it anyway...

I may be misinterpreting the link, but I don't see that Madrid is being bypassed; you just don't have to change trains there.

acraven, you're quite right—the detail of the bypass isn't in this announcement—if fact this says the trains will stop in Madrid.

I did see it in a separate article that crossed my path earlier today. I don't know what their source was.

We just went from Zaragoza toCordoba on Renfe. The train came from Barcelona and did not stop in Madrid. It continued on to Seville I think, don’t quote me.

Nick, there is a seldom-used triangle junction south of Madrid that connects the Barcelona line with the Sevilla line. Only used by a pair of trains every day, I think.

It's just a junction, not a whole line, so I guess the trains briefly slow down to 220 kph or something? The Madrid-Barcelona and Madrid-Sevilla lines share tracks for the first 10 miles, at which point they diverge.
