Looking for a cool neighborhood to stay for several nights in Madrid - early Oct. We don't need to stay in the touristy areas - rather we like to explore the areas less travelled. Thanks!

We’ll be staying in a hostal on Plaza del Carmen the same time you’ll be in Madrid. It’s pretty basic, but we loved staying there about 10 years ago, and knew we had to go back. There are several places to stay on that quiet plaza; we’ll be at the Acapulco.

Madrid is well traveled. While there are a number of neighborhoods less frequented by tourists, they are further away from the main sites most people want to visit. Essentially, there are some trade offs. A few areas are Recoletos, Las Delicias, Embajadores, Cheuca, and Justicia.

I’ve been to Spain a few times and my husband also, but neither of us have been to Madrid before we’re really looking forward to it.
