Intercountry flights

We are traveling from Granada to Barcelona via air. The only direct option, that I've found, is Vueling. Has anyone experienced challenges with them? Has anyone purchased tickets with the discount company CheapOAir? About how early should we arrive? I checked the company's website and can not find that info. Any words of advice?

They are fine; I've flown with them many times.

I arrive an hour before the flight if it's a very small airport; 90 minutes if it's a big-city airport.

We flew Vueling from Barcelona to Vienna. It was a nice flight, helpful gate agents. It is budget. I do not recall anything food or beverage served. I'd fly them again.

I've flown them -- Vueling is perfectly fine, as long as you keep in mind that they are a low-cost airline. This means you should:

  • Expect that they will strictly enforce their rules (e.g. on permissible luggage weight and size)
  • Pay close attention to the various ticket "bundles" they have and their fees, and be clear about exactly what you need -- e.g. their cheapest "Fly Light" do not include a bag in the overhead bin or seat selection

Conversely, I would strongly recommend that you book directly with Vueling instead of using a third-party website such as CheapOAir. I would give the same advice for any airline, but in particular for a low-cost airline, dealing with a third party in case something goes wrong (your flight is cancelled, etc.) is likely to be a nightmare.

I will just reiterate about following the rules for luggage and anything else.

It is not like flying in the US where close (well, even way over size and weight) is fine. If you want to carry on and have a bundle that includes it, make sure it is within size limits, including wheels and handles, and while fully packed. Same with weight, they only allow 10 kilos (22 lbs), not 23, they do weigh. When I fly a budget, I don't get cheap, I figure what I need and then add a pad. I know for example that 10 kilos is tough for me. For a three week trip, I am usually a couple pounds more, or I might pick something up along the way, so I pay and check a bag. Just keep in mind that the total price is still usually dirt cheap.
