Anybody know of any map app that works on phone in airplane mode? Seems like I read about one that worked but don't remember the name. Thanks

We are using one now in Spain, maps.me. You can download maps and it also works off satellite.

You can download the areas you need while you are on your home WiFi, just pan to the desired areas and zoom in and it will automatically prompt you to download. Once downloaded, it doesn't need any network, just turn off "data roaming" or put in aeroplane mode. It uses GPS only to calculate your current position.

I am using CityMaps2Go from Ulmon for iPhone and it's great. You download the city maps you want while on Wi-Fi and then your iPhones GPS tracks where you are on the map. You can add your own tags and make lists of what you want to see and do. It has been very helpful in planning my trip.
