Hello. We are driving approx 5 hours from Calpe ( on coast btwn Valencia and Alicante) to Granada. Looking for suggestions for moderately priced lunch and short picturesque visit in between these two towns. Thank you

About midpoint between the two locations is Lorca. Its castle is up on a hill that affords a nice view of the area. If I remember correctly, there was a cafeteria at the castle. If not, there are a number of places to eat in town (at the bottom of the hill). The Parador is within walking distance of the castle and it has a restaurant.
Another nearby town with a castle is Vélez-Rubio. Vélez-Blanco Castle Is outside of town. I haven’t been to that castle or town, but it’s en route, the castle is on a hill, and I’m sure the town has inexpensive restaurants/cafeterias.
You’ll come across very few foreign tourists in that region.
