Iberia Seat Selection?

Hello

My husband, I and our two kids (5 and 8) are flying from Granada to Paris with a 6 hour layover in Madrid on Iberia in May. I just realized seat selection is not included in our fares and am wondering what sort of hassle to expect if I do not pay the $100 for it. In the past when our flights have been bumped and we ended up on a plane without seat selection, we had to ask passengers to trade seats. I imagine that will be more difficult with the language barrier. Does anyone have any experience with this or know if Iberia will at least try to get us seated together if we don't do seat selection until we check in?

Are you referring to the seat selection between both legs of flights? If that's the case, you're really only talking about two 1-2 hour flights, which is super short even if you're partially separated from the kids. During your long layover you can go up to the gate agent and ask to be grouped together. For the first leg, I'm sure there will be passengers willing to let you sit together with the kids.

Thank you so much for your reply. Yes it is two fairly short flights. But with people now paying to choose their seats now I am worried people will be less likely to move. But you are probably right even if we are roughly in the same area we should be ok. And let's be honest, my kids are likely going to be better behaved if they do have to sit next to a stranger. :-P Thank you

I am a curmudgeon and hate being asked to trade seats, frankly. I would say no or non or nein or nyet or even "certainly not."

Thanks for the honest reply Norma. Do you pay for your seat selection? Obviously we select seats when we check in online. I am still trying to figure out if that's even an option on Iberia. I find their web site confusing for some reason.

Have you called Iberia? Sometimes if you're really nice thy may be happy to offer you something. At least you can put in a request to be seated together.

Thats a great idea! I will try and at least find out if I can reserve seats when I check in 24 hours before our flight.

That's usually the case. I had to wait to select my Swiss Air (12 hour flight) seat 24 hours before the flight departed.

I'd be surprised if they separate a child from the adult traveling with them.
You might not be all 4 together but I'd take the chance that Iberia will do the right thing.
I've paid for tickets in the past with Iberia but no longer do it deciding not to waste the money.
As far as the language barrier most people speak some English.

Well I paid for the seat selection for the first leg. My reasoning is that I want to be at the front of the plane for that one because we are attempting to get to Renia Sofia and back before our next flight. I will admit it was only a bit over $20 to reserve the seats for that one, the almost $80 for the next leg bugs me. lol So those I will reserve when we do online check in. Thanks everyone for your input!
