How to make train reservations with Eurail Pass

I have purchased a Eurail one country pass for Spain and want to make some train reservations in advance of my trip. I will be traveling in mid June. Any advice?

Honestly, try to get a refund. The pass will cost you far more than just buying the tickets in advance from RENFE.

You can always get your seat reservations at the train station with your pass. Might as well since the point of a pass is to allow you schedule flexibility. And unlike France, Spain does not limit reservations for passholders. Many Spanish trains offer no discount for passholders either - you have to buy the full fare (the long range trains do recognize the pass, short trips like Madrid-Toledo do not).

As Douglas intimates, you have probably made a big mistake - but to answer your question, read the terms and conditions of use!

When I purchased the Eurail one country pass for Spain, I knew I would have to pay to reserve, but I am finding no way to make these reservations in advance of my trip. Now with the feedback I'm getting im really frustrated about this. The Eurail pass says I can call Renfe, or have a travel agent do it, has anybody done either of these things to reserve seats on trains in Spain with a Eurail pass?

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Ann,

If you want to make them before leaving home, you can do this through Rail Europe - www.raileurope.com. Just click on the "Pass Reservations" link.

As Douglas mentioned, it's usually not a problem to make these reservations once you are in Spain, a day or two ahead at any train station or travel agency. You can make them as you go or all at once.

There is no point in making advance reservations. The only advance or justification for a rail pass is the convenience of going with short notice. Just hit the station and the ticket window, pay for the reservation and go. If you are willing to commit ahead of time to a fixed schedule then it is much cheaper to buy discount tickets when available.
