We will be in Madrid and need to get to Pamplona on a day that there is a no train service between those two cities. I see that there is a private limousine service, but that is very expensive and I'm curious whether there's any more reasonable option to get two people between these two cities. If there's bus service available, what would be the best bus service to use? Thank you for any suggestions.
Check out the alsa.es website. There are a number of daily buses from Madrid to Pamplona. For the date I looked at, each had a transfer somewhere along the route.
Is it possible the train schedule has yet to be released for the date you want to go?
The bus is always a good option.
Alsa has several buses that go through Soria, and you may have to change buses there, www.Alsa.es
There is another route through Burgos, the PLM (Pamplona Logroño, Madrid) bus. It is run by Jimenez buses, https://jimenezmovilidad.es/pamplona-logrono-madrid/
This is all very helpful and I’m leaning towards the bus, which is very convenient and frequent. Thank you for your help.
Why is it that the bus/coach is so frequently overlooked by US visitors when they search for transport in Spain? Just wondering, as buses in Spain are extremely safe, cheap, very frequent, modern and very much on time. Is it for some reason in particular that train is preferred over the bus?
Unfortunately, cross-country bus service in the U.S. offers few of the characteristics you mention so travelers here rarely think about the bus. My family rode it when I was a child, but getting from the central U.S. to far western or far eastern U.S. takes 50 hours or more. In Spain, you can cross the entire country north to south in about 10 hours.
Toilets Mikel. :-)
Carrie, but long distance buses are equipped with toilets and they do toilet stops. I can understand that trains are somehow more comfortable, but there are so many questions about routes that only enquire about the train connections, ignoring the bus, that I was wondering why.
