We are flying into Madrid airport in September and need to get to Cordoba? What’s the best way to get to the train station from the airport? Should we buy our tickets now or wait? Is there a preferred site?

Madrid airport taxi to Atocha station is easiest, I think 35 EUR. Buy from Renfe, download the app. Purchase at earliest 3 months in advance. Easy peasy!
Pro tip. Take the train around noon and go see the greatest hits of the Reina Sofia across the street from the station when it opens at 10am.

You can purchase a ticket to Córdoba from the Renfe office at the airport. You will be given a ticket for the local train to Madrid Atocha station and from there transfer to an AVE train to Cordoba. I found the staff at the Renfe airport office very helpful.
I never purchase train tickets in advance for my arrival day. There is too much risk that your plane will be delayed. Or, in my case, our plane was quite early and we breezed through customs and got an earlier train than we anticipated. Cordoba isn’t that far, and the savings isn’t that great relative to the risk.
