Hi to all, and I sincerely thank you for all the help you are giving my wife and me. Our latest question – what is the best way to travel from Granada to Ronda in Spain? We would like to take a train, but there seems to be no train on the day we are looking to travel (Saturday, June 1). Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.
We just arrived to Granada from Ronda. We rented a car. Where are you going after Ronda?
Seville. (And thanks so much in advance for any guidance you can give – much appreciated).
Usually there have been a couple trains per day and also buses from Granada to Ronda. I noticed yesterday that the Renfe website had a pop-up message in Spanish about problems with the portal (if I was translating correctly). Today it shows one train on June 1 leaving Granada at 3:35pm and arriving in Ronda at 7:49pm.
Thanks so very much for your help. It is really appreciated!
According to the Renfe site there is one train from Granada to Ronda on 1 June. It departs Granada at 15:35 and arrives at 19:47. There is one train change in Córdoba.
Ave 03931 and Intercity 09330.
When I look the trains and bus were not direct. Maybe I did not look hard enough. If you think you may want to explore other white hill towns a car would be nice.
Another option is to take a bus from Granada to Malaga, and then change to a bus
to Ronda.
It is most likely 2 different bus companies - Alsa from Granada to Malaga, and then
Damas or Avanza from Malaga to Granada.
Opinions on buses in Spain may very, but I find them to be just fine. Other factor is
that you will have many more schedule and connection options with the bus.
Why not take the train from Granada to fabulous Cordoba, and spend a day sightseeing there, and then the train from Cordoba to Ronda the following day? I don't think there are direct trains to Ronda from Sevilla, although that could also be an option from Granada too, and then a 2h bus to Ronda from Sevilla.
For a truly epic rail trip to Ronda I would also recommend the train "Mr Henderson's Railway" (built originally by the British during Victorian times) from Algeciras/San Roque, it is a lesser known historic train ride through stunning scenery (although that involves first getting down to Algeciras).
We’ll be taking ALSA bus from Granada to Malaga then Malaga to Ronda next week—didn’t want to get into Ronda really late so the train didn’t work for us. Will post how that went. Pretty straightforward to book the tickets— went to the alsa and damas websites.
Thanks you all for your help. It is truly appreciated!
Arrived in Ronda yesterday. Took the 0945 ALSA bus from Granada to Malaga. Road construction delayed our arrival by 40 minutes but in plenty of time to catch the 1230 DAMAS bus to Ronda. Very comfortable rides, beautiful scenery. Most of the folks on the ALSA bus were going to the airport so getting off at the Malaga bus station was very fast.
We had tickets on Avanza to go from Ronda to San Pedro de Alcantara. As the departure time got closer no Avanza buses were in the terminal (really just a large overhang with 8 bus slots). Thankfully I asked one of the terminal attendants and was told that the bus line alternated between Avanza and DAMAS and directed us to the appropriate DAMAS bus.
