We are traveling in August to Madrid then by train to Barcelona then on to Nice/Monaco and eventually to Paris by train. I have read that it can take up to 10 hours and 2+ stops to get from Barcelona to Nice - Has anyone had experience with this and can offer tips or alternative travel information.
What you have looks about right. Maybe an hour or so longer than my guess would be. Figure the cost at close to one-fifty.
How about Vueling or Easyjet. Hour and a half and under seventy-five bucks.
Flying would be another option I will check that out - thank you!
The reverse direction has an 8-hour train connection, but the best current rail options from Barcelona to Nice take 9-10 hours. Flying is often cheaper, as well as faster; try www.skyscanner.com as a search engine for multiple carriers.
For Nice-Paris, Rick’s France rail travel page has the link and tips for buying “Prems” rate TGV tickets through SNCF (cheap, reserved, nonrefundable, available three or four months ahead of your travel date) to print at home and pay with PayPal. It does not tend to work with US credit cards, unless you have an extra level of security set up.
tivey .. summer 2012 .. we flew from Nice to Barcelona.. it was quick ,easy and I only paid about 45 euros each..
We did almost 6 hours on a train from Paris to Nice and I am glad we flew .. as I have decided that 6 hours is my limit on a train ( even with a packed picnic etc)
