How many days in Malaga

Planning a visit to Southern Spain and arriving in Malaga from US on an overnight flight. Was planning on spending a few days in Malaga before heading out to Ronda and elsewhere. I'm not a beach person so I am not someone who will sit on a chair and soak up hours of sun. Was wondering how many days are sufficient to visit Malaga. Thanks in advance for any input.

We stayed a night or so. It's a fun town with a good vibe and I enjoyed dining there and the Picasso museum, but I would not plan a long time with so many really outstanding places to visit in Andalucia.

My wife and I spent a month there while taking Spanish classes. We loved it. There are a couple of days worth of sights.

But it pales in comparison to a seville. The problem here is that so much of Spain is fantastic that it's hard to argue one ought to allocate more to malaga.

Happy travels.

We spent 2 nights in Malaga, and we loved it. Malaga is very underrated, IMO. There is lots to do. There are many art museums, including the Picasso. The cathedral is gorgeous. We took a beautiful walk to the Alcazaba (a Moorish fortress on a hilltop). There were exotic flowers, lush greenery, fountains, towers, gateways, Roman columns, arches, and a small Nasrid Palace. And stunning views of the Mediterranean, the city, and the port. Be sure to take a walk along the seaside promenade and stop for drinks to admire the coastal ambience.

I am by no means suggesting you should skip Seville, Cordoba, or Granada. These are the gems of Andalusia. But Malaga is wonderful. I would stay at least 2 nights.

I was just there for the third time and stayed another three days. One of those days was for their Carnaval.

I agree with the previous comments that it’s a nice city, but unless you’re retired and adding extra days, I wouldn’t take days away from Sevilla, Cordoba, Ronda, or Granada to stay more days in Malaga, also.

Thank you Jean for your reply and kind assistance. After reviewing the comments here I think we will spend two days tops in Malaga before heading out to Ronda and from there Cordova and Granada (been to Seville in 2017 and loved it). Cheers.

Won't you need a day to relax, after flying from the US?

For Cordoba, I'd stay three nights, for sure.
I'd skip Ronda in favor of a less touristed small town. There are so many that rarely get mentioned here.

How many days do you have for Andalucia? You might consider Jerez (much better than Ronda in many ways, for me); Cadiz; Ubeda, etc.....those three don't get mentioned too often here but each is lovely. I spent about 6 nights in Cadiz a few years ago, after a week in Sevilla. Last year, three days in Jerez was perfect.

Can you fly home from a city other than the one you land at in the beginning? That always saves lots of time.

With 9 days you obviously are limited in time. Personally, I wouldn't include Ronda in that - but, plenty of others disagree.
Malaga doesn't have the "wow" sights of Granada's Alhambra, Cordoba's mosque-catedral or Sevilla generally.
But Malaga (city) is delightful and, I think, doesn't always get enough love from our host on here (remember, that like much of Andalucia, Malaga is the name of both the city and its surrounding province. Malaga city is great, however some of the provincial coastal parts to the West, can be a bit over-touristy). You'll certainly find enough to do in the city itself if you want a jetlag recovery day. And it is worth much more. But with only 9 days, I wouldn't stay more than a night or two, given everything else.
My recommendation for a short time in Malaga would be to concentrate on the old town (attractive streets and a food hub), including the Castillo de Gibralfaro / Alcazaba / Roman theatre combo. If you have more time, the Picasso and car/frock museums are interesting.

Excellent response, Nick...!

What is the tremendous attraction with Ronda on this forum, when there are so many as beautiful or more beautiful towns in the province that do not tend to be jammed with day trippers?

Thanks Nick for your kind assistance and advice re the itinerary. It is most valuable. I've actually been to Seville, Cordoba and Granada on previous trips, though I only daughter tripped to Cordoba ftom Seville (so this time around I'd like to spend 2 full days there). My in laws are joining us on this trip and they have never been to Spain so within the 9 days we are there I want to afford them the chance to see as much pf these cities as time permits.
