How is EES going in Madrid

Greetings! Traveling to Madrid next Sunday from New York. What can we expect as far as EES wait time. 3 hour layover before Tenarife flight. Thank you!

It worked great for me in March. Details from my trip report:

Upon arrival in Madrid, we were bussed from the tarmac to Terminal 4S
for passport control. There was no line when we arrived. All U.S.
passport holders were directed to the EES machines. There appeared to
be about 35–40 machines, and all were working, but they were a bit
finicky. I had to scan my passport multiple times, retake my photo,
and scan my fingerprints four times.

My brother-in-law and I were asked a series of questions; my sister
was not. The questions included: Are you staying long-term or do you
have a visa? (No.) Purpose of visit? (Tourism.) Do you have proof of
financial means? (Yes.) Type of accommodation? (Hotel.) Length of
stay? (We selected our departure date on a calendar.)

After completing the process, my sister and I were directed to see a
border officer, while my brother-in-law was directed to the eGates.

Next, we all went through the eGates, where we scanned our passports
and had another photo taken. We then proceeded to a border officer. We
approached together; the officer looked at our passports, compared
them to our faces, and stamped them.

I can easily see this process backing up if several flights arrive at
once, but we were very lucky with timing.

Of course, you may have a completely different experience if the machines are not working or multiple filghts arrive at the same time.

Good luck!!

I went through Madrid in April. It was very quick, brief wait in line, scanned my passport, fingerprints, and went through passport control without any questions or incident. Maybe it took 5 minutes total.

To put specific numbers on it, my flight was wheel down at Barajas at 7:36 am. I got in a cab in a parking structure next to arrival at 8:27 am. So, the flight taxiing + getting off the plane and onto a bus to the terminal + EES + passport control + train from T4S to T4 + walking out of T4 + walking to the cab area = 51 minutes.

We had 3 hours between landing in Madrid and our train out of Chamartin. It went so fast that we actually ended up waiting over 2 hours at Chamartin. If your flight lands on time, you should be fine.

Super quick for me this past March.

Might I ask where you are headed in Tenerife? I am curious because I am thinking about visiting for the first time in the next year or so......

We just came thru on July 8 . Despite having entered w EES earlier this year in another country, it still required us to go to both machines. First pre screen then immigration gates . There were plenty of staff to help walk thru process but many machines were not working well (fingertip scan touchy, passport not read etc) so be prepared to be patient, quickly find another machine if first one does not read , and follow the instructions exactly! Buena suerte!
