Hotels near Plaza Mayor, Madrid

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a hotel near Plaza Mayor? I'm looking for a single-bed room for two non-consecutive nights. I'd like to keep the cost to less than 60 euros per night, and the hotel Rick recommends in that price range is booked already.

Thank you in advance!

You might also check airbnb and some of the similar sites...often good rooms and good prices...

Look at VRBO for that price range. I have stayed at Hotel Europa and really liked it. But I presume you already tried it.

The Hostal La Casa de la Plaza (http://www.lacasadelaplaza.com/) had some decent reviews and is located nearby. I suspect there's an event the 25th and 26th in the area because everything is booked those two nights. I may review it myself, but for $34, I expect to get $34 worth ((but hey, it's only for a night).

By booking directly through the hotel instead of Expedia, I saved $23. A good lesson.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Ryan,
You might take a look at the Hotel Plaza Mayor. A single there, without breakfast, will be in the ballpark for that price. It is a very nice hotel 1 minute from Plaza Mayor.

We stayed at Hostal Santa Cruz (also Hostal Cruz Sol in the same building, different floor). It's about a block east of Plaza Mayor and about two blocks south west of Puerta del Sol.

It's okay, nothing special but also not bad. IMO lodging in Madrid is the worst, and most expensive, in the country.

We stayed at Hotel Petit Palace Peine, its right off one of the entrances to the Plaza Mayor, the hotel was beutiful and there were tons of restaurants and bars all around.
Room was big with a king sized bed and large bathroom also.
The price was pretty reasonable as well.
