I enjoyed the AC Colon. Central location by bullring, City Hall plaza, walking streets. Was able to walk to other neighborhoods easily. Nice, modern rooms, good beds.

I stayed at Hotel Ayre Astoria Palace and loved it. Comfortable, quiet, and great staff, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. It's about a 10 minute walk from the train station and a couple minutes' walk to the main square.

I stayed at the Sorolla Centro, very convenient, easily walkable to the principal train station and to the main plaza, very clean and comfortable, and, very affordable. Stars? Probably high 2 or 3. Found it through Booking.com, usually my best source.

We stayed at the Expo Hotel. Would cross it off your potential list. There are much better hotels I'm sure that are closer to the downtown area.
