Hotels in N Spain cities

Hello,

We are looking to stay a week in each of the listed places and need advice on hotel - no Airbnbs - recommendations in the following, from those who have stayed there recenty. This will be for this coming August. AC and elevators are required.
Santiago de Compostela
Leon
Santander
Pamplona
We are early 70s, can walk to sights but prefer to be in the center areas as this is our first time visiting those cities and N Spain. We would also like to have good access to trains and buses for neighboring cities. Expecting heat and crowds, but will be fine-
Thank you.

In Santiago we’ve stayed at the Parador beside the cathedral. It is pricey depending on the time of year. A more budget friendly alternative we enjoyed was Hotel Rua Villar a couple hundred meters from the cathedral.

In León we enjoyed the Parador on Plaza San Marcos. It’s in a beautifully building, but probably not as centrally located as you’re looking for.

In Pamplona we enjoyed Pamplona Catedral Hotel. It is in a good location very near the town hall and only a few minutes walk to Plaza Del Castillo.

Just got back from a visit to several places in Europe, including Santiago de Compostela. I had spent four weeks there back in college fifty years ago. It was fun to be there again, but this time just for a few days. But notably many, many more pilgrims and tourists now. And many pilgrims are happy to share their tales of walking the “camino”. We stayed at a small hotel called Hotel Montes. They have an elevator which can be accessed if you enter through their small restaurant entrance on Praza de Fonseca. If you enter through their giftshop on Rua do Vilar you have to walk up one flight to reception to catch the elevator. Breakfast was included in our price. Located only a block away from the cathedral and main plaza, so right in the heart of the historical center. Lots of restaurants in area. Very walkable Old Town, most of which is pedestrianized, but not walkable to train station. Hotel can call a taxi for you. Website says they have air conditioning. I know you said you are planning your trip for August but ithe Feast of Santiago is July 25 and there are all kinds of great activities that go on for several days , many that feature traditional Galician clothing, music, foods, etc. That is a great time to visit.

Just a reminder, the 12th is the eclipse, and it will be over all the places you have mentioned. You may have a problem booking a place that week.

In Pamplona, we stayed 2 nights at Hotel Maisonnave. Staff was kind and they had a wonderful breakfast buffet. In Leon, we stayed at NH Collection León Plaza Mayor also for 2 nights. Again the staff was incredible and we also really loved their breakfast buffet. We were walking the Camino and both of these hotels were such a treat for our rest days. :-)

I have stayed in and would recommend the parador in León, and Capitol Boutique Hotel in Santiago de Compostela.
