I'm looking for recommendations for a hotel in Madrid for 3 days after my tour is finished May 22. Thanks
We loved The Principal right off of Gran Via, walk to museums and Retiro Park.
Loads of options. Any hints on a budget or what part of town you'd like to be in, to narrow the recommendations?
On our last couple trips we’ve stayed at Hotel Europa at the Puerta Del Sol. On one trip we stayed at Petit Palace Posada del Peine by the Plaza Mayor (It is a chain hotel). Years ago we stayed at the budget hotel that is now Sleep’N Atocha. Some friend of ours are headed there today and will be staying at Hotel Francisco I. As Scudder stated, there are plenty to choose from depending on how much you want to pay and which part of the city.
The Hotel Emperador on the Gran Via is great. I stayed there many years ago.

If you check with the hotel that's part of the tour, be sure and ask for the 'Rick Steves' price.
Another vote for the Hotel Europa. We like the front rooms. Little nosier but have french balconies overlooking the street and the square.
Our tour stayed at the Europa, which was fine. Returning to Madrid after the tour, I stayed at the Moderno about a block away, which was also fine (and had an RS group staying too). I chose a different hotel, sight unseen, because the Moderno seemed (from its website) to have bigger rooms for about the same price. But asking for a quiet location when I checked in left me in a smaller room than I'd expected (a quiet one). You have many choices, though fewer three weeks out than if you had booked earlier.
